College of the Canyons has a Hockey Program that is an 'educational based' program and is offered to the potential student and player. As a parent of a hockey player that has finished his travel hockey career, I was pleasantly surprised at what our family was offered.

1) An education based Hockey Program at a Community College that boasts of being the fastest growing Campus in the United States and they have the first class facilities to prove it. The cost savings were tremendous and the curriculum was the same that was offered at other Universities but at the fraction of the cost.

2) My son will finish his General Ed Program and graduate with an AA Diploma. With fully transferable units we have number choices of Universities to complete his Degree. The Instructors were Professors and not Teaching Assistants and we felt this would help in the transition to a 4 year College.

3) The most amazing benefit of playing for The College of the Canyons Hockey Team is that the players were offered advanced registration, which means a player can complete College of the Canyons in 2 years while other students struggle to find classes and complete their classes in 3-4 years. This is translates into thousands of dollars in savings for me and a jump start to help pay for a Degree.

4) The Hockey Program is first rate and the emphasis is not only developing a Nationally Ranked Hockey Program with the possibility of moving players to NCAA and Junior Programs due to the national exposure, but also responsible citizens and good students.

5) The Hockey Program parallels the education model in that you are offered a great practice with Top-Notched Coaching and you have the ability to use your skills and talent to work your way off-the- bench and earn your rink time. The players are given the ability to apprehend the team as there own and thus working harder to achieve success. The College of the Canyons Cougars Hockey Team has had great success with the Program competing at the ACHA Div. III National Championships 3 out of the teams 6 years of inception.

6) All players must maintain the required units and maintain the required grade level.

7) The home rink 'Valencia Ice Station' is the crowing jewel that compliments the whole program, boasting to have the best facilities in California.
